Nachos

Low Fat Nachos!? What will they think of next? Did you know that “Nacho” is short for “Ignacio”? (that’s a Spanish name, by the way). But more importantly, did you know that “Nachos” are not a Mexican dish (as many restaurants lead us to believe), but an American dish?

Anyhow… enough of history! Coming back to the Italian Nachos… yes. I guess this is the Italian version because the ingredients used are typically Italian. I guess that’s a good reason for their name.

Ingredients for low fat nachos:

  • 2 wholemeal pita breads
  • 1/2 cup of low fat shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • a pinch of paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

This is what you do:

Preheat your oven at 180 C (About 350 F).

Cut each pita bread into small triangles (the size of a corn chip). Then, spray a baking tray, and place the “pita chips” in it. Set aside.

Mix well the rest of the ingredients and spread over the pita chips, and put the baking tray into the oven for about 15 minutes.

Nice with a low cals beer (or even one full strength beer is ok for an extra 2 WW points).
